Alsecco External Wall Insulation Systems

The Alsecco External Wall Insulation System is a certified façade insulation solution designed to improve the thermal performance, durability, and appearance of both new and existing masonry or concrete buildings. Manufactured by Alsecco GmbH (Germany) and distributed in Ireland through Ikonic Distribution Ltd (Co. Limerick), this system is engineered for Irish weather conditions and fully compliant with the Irish Building Regulations 1997–2019 under NSAI Agrément Certificate No. 20/0421.

Use

The Alsecco system is suitable for:

  • New and existing concrete or masonry dwellings

  • Commercial or industrial buildings up to six storeys (18m) in height

  • Not assessed for use on timber or steel frame structures

It provides enhanced insulation, moisture resistance, and aesthetic finishes, supporting energy conservation and long-term durability.

System Components

Each Alsecco system is a complete, tested build-up including:

  • Adhesive layers: Armatop or Dämmkleber cementitious and polymer-based adhesives

  • Insulation boards: EPS, graphite EPS, or mineral wool (lamella or slab)

  • Base coats: Reinforced Armatop basecoat (cementitious or polymer) with embedded glass-fibre mesh

  • Fixings: Mechanical anchors (e.g. ejotherm, Hilti ETICS, SDF-K plus) with stainless-steel fire fixings where required

  • Primer/key coats: Haftgrund P, Si, or Sc (depending on render type)

  • Finishing renders: Wide range, including silicone, silicate, acrylic, mineral, or dash finishes

  • Ancillary profiles: Aluminium or PVC starter tracks, edge trims, movement joints, and sill details

This multi-layered composition ensures strength, thermal efficiency, and aesthetic flexibility.

Compliance

The system meets the following parts of the Irish Building Regulations (1997–2019):

  • Part D – Materials & Workmanship: Certified as ‘proper materials’ fit for purpose

  • Part A – Structure: Adequate strength and stability under loading

  • Part B – Fire Safety: Classified up to A2-s1,d0 (mineral wool) and B-s2,d0 (EPS variants)

  • Part C – Moisture Resistance: Excellent protection against rain and condensation

  • Part L – Energy Efficiency: Achieves required U-values and reduces thermal bridging

Thermal Performance

Declared thermal conductivities (λ90/90):

  • EPS 038–032: 0.038–0.032 W/mK

  • Graphite EPS 030–031: 0.030–0.031 W/mK

  • Mineral Wool: 0.036–0.042 W/mK

Typical U-values achievable:

  • 0.27 W/m²K (retrofit)

  • 0.21 W/m²K (new build)

Fire Safety
  • Mineral Wool Systems: Non-combustible, A2-s1,d0 classification — suitable for buildings up to 18m.

  • EPS Systems: Class B-s2,d0, with mandatory fire breaks and stainless-steel fire fixings (1 per m²).

  • Fire barriers: Installed at each compartment floor and wall using lamella mineral wool (120 kg/m³).

Fixings (Typical)
  • EPS: 6–8 fixings/m²

  • Mineral Wool: 8–12 fixings/m²

  • Above 2 storeys: Additional stainless-steel fire fixings at 1 per m²

All fixings are ETA-approved in accordance with ETAG 014.
