Ceresit Ceretherm External Wall Insulation System
The Ceresit Ceretherm External Wall Insulation (EWI) System, developed by Henkel Ireland Operations & Research Ltd, is a high-performance insulation and façade solution designed to improve the energy efficiency and weather resistance of buildings across Ireland. Certified under NSAI Agrément Certificate No. 09/0340, the system complies with all relevant sections of the Irish Building Regulations (1997–2019) and is widely used in both residential and commercial applications.
Use:
The Ceresit Ceretherm system is intended for:
External thermal insulation of masonry or concrete buildings (new or existing)
Low-rise and medium-rise buildings up to six storeys (18m)
Refurbishment projects where energy upgrades and façade renewal are required
Not approved for timber or steel frame structures
The system significantly reduces heat loss, improves energy ratings, and provides a decorative, durable finish suitable for Irish climatic conditions.
System Components:
Each Ceresit Ceretherm installation comprises a series of compatible layers forming a tested and certified system:
Adhesive: Ceresit CT 83 (cement-based) or CT 85 / CT 190 for mineral wool systems
Insulation Boards:
Expanded Polystyrene (EPS)
Graphite-enhanced EPS
Mineral Wool (lamella or slab)
Phenolic foam (where high insulation efficiency is required)
Mechanical Fixings: ETA-approved anchors with plastic or metal expansion pins
Base Coat: Cementitious or polymer-modified base (CT 85, CT 190) with embedded glass-fibre mesh (160 g/m²)
Primer: Ceresit CT 16 or CT 15 as a bonding bridge for render coats
Finish Coat: Wide range of textured renders — silicone, silicate, acrylic, or mineral
Ancillary Components: Profiles, beads, and fire barriers for edge, base, and junction detailing
Compliance:
The Ceresit Ceretherm system satisfies the following parts of the Irish Building Regulations (1997–2019):
Part D – Materials and Workmanship: Certified and quality controlled under NSAI Agrément
Part A – Structure: Adequate strength and resistance to wind loading
Part B – Fire Safety:
EPS: Class B-s2,d0
Mineral Wool: Class A2-s1,d0 (non-combustible)
Part C – Resistance to Moisture: Proven resistance to rain penetration and condensation
Part L – Conservation of Fuel and Energy: Achieves low U-values compliant with national energy standards
Fixings (Typical):
- EPS systems: 6–8 fixings/m²
- Mineral Wool systems: 8–12 fixings/m²
- Above 2 storeys: Add stainless-steel fire fixings (1 per m² minimum)
All fixings must be ETA-approved and installed to the manufacturer’s layout and pull-out requirements.
Installation
Installation is to be carried out only by Henkel-approved and NSAI-certified contractors trained in Ceresit Ceretherm application procedures.
Key installation requirements:
Substrate inspection, cleaning, and pull-out testing before installation
Wind-load and U-value calculation according to project specification
Correct placement of fire barriers and stainless-steel fixings
Application temperatures between +5°C and +25°C
Weather protection during curing (avoid frost, rain, or strong sunlight)
Henkel provides full technical support, design guidance, and site supervision to ensure compliance and long-term performance.
