Kreisel External Insulation Systems

The Kreisel External Insulation Systems, distributed in Ireland by Modern Insulation Systems Ltd., provide high-performance thermal insulation for masonry and concrete buildings up to six storeys. The systems combine advanced EPS or mineral wool insulation with reinforced basecoats and durable decorative renders, achieving superior energy efficiency, fire safety, and weather protection. Fully compliant with Irish Building Regulations 1997–2017, the Kreisel systems are designed, supplied, and installed under strict quality control, offering a design life of over 30 years when properly maintained.

Use:


External insulation system for existing or new masonry or concrete buildings up to 6 storeys (18 m) high.
Approved for purpose groups 1(a)–4(b) as defined in TGD to Part B of the Building Regulations.
Not assessed for timber or steel frame construction.

 

System Components:

  • Surface preparation of masonry or concrete substrate

  • Adhesive and/or mechanical fixings

  • Insulation boards: Graphite-enhanced EPS or Mineral Wool

  • Base coat: Cementitious with glass-fibre mesh reinforcement

  • Key coat and primer (Tynkolit range)

  • Finishing coats: Mineral, acrylic, silicone, silicate, or hybrid renders (various textures and particle sizes)

  • Plinth insulation: XPS below DPC

  • Fire stops, weather seals, and movement joints

  • Ancillary components: starter tracks, corner beads, and reinforcement mesh

Compliance:


Complies with Irish Building Regulations 1997–2017, meeting:

  • Part A: Structure – adequate strength and stability

  • Part B: Fire safety – Class A2 or B; non-combustible for Mineral Wool

  • Part C: Resistance to moisture and weather

  • Part D: Proper materials and workmanship

  • Part F: Condensation and ventilation provisions

  • Part J: Heat-producing appliances (adequate separation distances)

  • Part L: Conservation of fuel and energy (U-values ≤0.21 W/m²K achievable)

 

Fixings (typical):

  • EPS: minimum 6 mechanical fixings/m² + 1 stainless-steel fire fixing/m² above 2 storeys

  • Mineral Wool: minimum 8 mechanical fixings/m²

  • Fire stops and lamella barriers at compartment floors and walls (120 kg/m³ density, fixed at 400 mm centres)

  • Additional fixings around window and door openings at ≤300 mm centres

10-year materials and workmanship guarantee by Modern Insulation Systems Ltd., subject to approved installation and maintenance.

 

Installation:

  • Project-specific design prepared by Modern Insulation Systems Ltd., including U-value, condensation risk, wind load, and fixing design

  • Installation only by Modern Insulation Systems Ltd.–trained and NSAI-approved applicators

  • Adhesive + mechanical fixing system following ETAG 004 / ETA 15/0575 and 15/0576 standards

  • Apply within temperature range +5 °C to +25 °C

  • Fire stops, movement joints, and detailing as per NSAI Agrément guidelines

  • Includes full site inspection, homeowner documentation, and compliance certification

 

Design Life:


Minimum 30 years, provided routine inspection and maintenance are carried out per NSAI and manufacturer’s instructions.
